In a bid to foster gender equality, the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing (DVDL) under the Transport Ministry, has announced it has hired its first full-time female vehicle inspector and driving examiner. This was in keeping with the Transport Ministry’s efforts to create inclusive opportunities within traditionally male-dominated sectors, they said.

Julissa Avila, an experienced Licensing Officer, has advanced as a full-time vehicle inspector and driving examiner, marking a significant step towards breaking barriers and empowering women in the field. She will contribute to DVDL’s efforts to ensure road safety and improve the quality of service for all drivers. Ms Avila will be a valuable asset in ensuring that the vehicle inspection process remains thorough, efficient, and customer-focused, a release stated, and she will play a key role in enhancing DVDL’s service delivery, helping to further improve the quality of service for all drivers.

Wendy Fisher, Operations Manager at the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing, said the achievement was a powerful testament to Ms Avila’s professionalism and unwavering commitment to excellence.

“She has demonstrated remarkable dedication to growing within DVDL, paving the way for future opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated fields. Her success is an inspiration to both current and future employees, reinforcing DVDL’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking workplace,” Ms Fisher said.

This year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme, Accelerate Action, emphasises the importance of taking decisive steps to achieve gender equality. As the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development and DVDL continue to make strides, Ms Avila’s achievement served as a reminder that opportunities for women were expanding in every industry, including those where they have traditionally been underrepresented, they said. They added that the Ministry and DVDL remained committed to providing a diverse and supportive environment where all employees can thrive and contribute to the Ministry’s mission.
