Relays are exciting, fast and fun – and the return of the open water relay to Cayman’s open water calendar on Saturday 8, October marked the first year it was sponsored by Fraser Properties.
“This was a fun, family event that everyone enjoyed”, said Jim Fraser, father of Shaune and Brett Fraser – Cayman’s Olympic swimmers who took part in all CIASA’s open water swims when they were age group swimmers, but are now best known for their exploits in the pool rather than open water. And to prove his point his team was a family affair. Fraser swam the anchor leg for team Fraser Fliers, and other members of his team were Sacha Didier, Lexi Didier and Tali Didier,
First team to finish overall, was also the first all-male team – Obese Cats made up on Will Sellars, James Allison, Dominic Hilton and Joran Lisle; while second overall finishing team – Team 157 – was a mixed gender team made up of Raya Embury-Brown, Tate Marr, Thomas Feguson and Connor Macdonald.
Taking place at Governor’s Beach, the relay saw CIASA debut its new finish line and ended with a BBQ and social for all swimmers.
Open water swimmers turn their attention now to Saturday 15 October when the 38th Annual Fosters 800m Sea Swim takes place.
• Race starts at 4:00 pm. (Check-in and body marking is at Governor’s Beach from 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm)
