CIG Announces Changes to Ministry Assignments

Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs Jane Owen, acting under the recommendations of the Premier, this afternoon presented instruments of appointment for the following Ministries:

Honourable Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, JP, MP, Premier and Minister for Finance & Economic Development, Education, District Administration & Lands, Financial Services & Commerce, Health, and Cabinet Office.

Honourable Kenneth Bryan, MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism & Ports, and Social Development & Innovation.

Honourable Johany ‘Jay’ Ebanks, MP Minister for Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport, & Development

Honourable Dwayne Seymour, CCI, JP, MP Minister for Border Control, Labour & Culture, Sustainability & Climate Resiliency, and Wellness

Honourable Isaac Rankine, JP, MP Minister for Youth, Sports, & Heritage, and Home Affairs

Honourable W. McKeeva Bush Parliamentary Secretary to Hon. Kenneth Bryan for Social, Development and Innovation, in addition to continuing to serve as Parliamentary Secretary to Hon. Dwayne Seymour and Hon. Jay Ebanks.

Premier Hon. Juliana O'Connor-Connolly expressed her gratitude to her new Deputy Premier, fellow Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries for their cooperation and commitment to ensuring stability for the Cayman Islands with their acceptance of additional responsibilities.

"The desire to serve the people of the Cayman Islands drives the decisions made today, which will ensure the continued stability for our economy and government. The assignments take into account each Minister's experience and expertise, which will allow for a seamless transition of those portfolios", she stated. “These actions demonstrate that even amidst uncertainty, the Cayman Islands Government continues to operate as a modern, functioning democracy for its people.”

“The events of this week with our Sister Islands being directly impacted by Hurricane Rafael reminds us of the need for vigilance, unity and a constant state of readiness to serve”, Premier O'Connor-Connolly continued.

In welcoming the decision to assign ministries, Her Excellency the Governor stated, “This will enable our current government, which is constitutionally quorate, to deliver for all our people over the coming months as we prepare for an election. In order to ensure that voters who register by early January are included in the official Register of Electors which will be published on 1 April, and following consultation with the Premier, it has been decided that the next general election will be held on Wednesday, 30 April, 2025.”

The Hon. Premier, accompanied by Her Excellency the Governor, will join host Orrett Connor on For the Record, tomorrow morning (Friday, 8 November, 2024). The public is encouraged to tune into Radio Cayman 89.9 FM.
