September, 2009 was set to be a very special time for Lisbeth and Keld Christenson. The Danish couple has painstakingly made plans to take a cruise to Grand Cayman; the ultimate goal was a beautiful wedding on the beach. Arrangements had already been made with Mrs. Joy Basdeo of Simply Weddings. It was to be a day that they would both remember for the rest of their lives. Instead, what preceded this day was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
As fate would have it, while the couple was in Florida in order to embark on their cruise, their rental car was broken into. The thieves took all of their possessions, including Lisbeth’s dress and both their wedding rings. Brokenhearted, the couple salvaged what they could of their dream and got married in a rushed civil ceremony before returning home to Denmark.
Years passed but Lisbeth and Keld still held on to the dream of a wedding on our shores. They kept in touch with Mrs. Basdeo, and vowed to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in Grand Cayman. This time, god willing, there would be no detours or distractions.
Dreams really do come true, albeit a little delayed sometimes, and this was one of those dreams. On Monday, September 23rd, their anniversary, the couple sailed into Grand Cayman on a cruise. As they disembarked the Carnival Conquest, Simply Weddings was waiting to pick them up. In just a few short minutes, they were transported to Consuelo’s Beach. There, they renewed their vows in a beautiful Cayman style ceremony. It was utterly amazing and inspiring.
Mrs. Joy Basdeo, who officiated the ceremony, was touched as well. “This is a beautiful story,” she stated. “It is a really beautiful love story.” The others who present would agree. Of course, pictures were taken and champagne toasts were made; all adding to the memories.
Now, Lisbeth, who is a Health and Safety Offshore Supervisor with General Electric, and Keld, who is a firefighter with the Danish Air Force, are seasoned travelers who have taken many exotic vacations all around the world. However, this island has laid claim to a special in both their hearts. It was an initial dream to get married her but, now it is a place that signifies their love; true and everlasting. Because of that fact, the couple are already planning a return visit to the Cayman Islands. Perhaps it will be on their eleventh anniversary.
