Death in Unvaccinated Patient, Cases Continue to Decrease

An unvaccinated patient died during Epidemiological Week, or Epi. Week 8 (20 – 26 February) according to the COVID-19 situational report released today (Thursday 3 March). The Cayman Islands has reported a total of 18 COVID-19 related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

During Epi. Week 8, there were 383 new cases of COVID-19 reported by Public Health. This was 169 cases less than were reported in the previous Epi. Week (13 – 19 February). Positive COVID-19 cases have declined by 77 percent over the last four weeks.

Officials noted that 2,581 tests were conducted in Epi.Week 8 compared to 3,098 tests in Epi.Week 7 and 4,716 tests in Epi.Week 6.

During Epi. Week 8, there were 17 hospital inpatients going through the two main hospitals in the Cayman Islands (Health Services Authority and Health City Cayman Islands).

Public Health has released COVID-19 figures for 1-2 March 2022.

Positive cases reported to Public Health during this period are currently as follows:

There are 774 estimated active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands. Nine patients are currently hospitalised for COVID related causes and of these, 1 is partially vaccinated and 5 are unvaccinated.

The Sister Islands also noted 9 new cases since the last report, bringing total cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 567.
