The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) advises members of the public that there will be no garbage collection services on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2023, and the landfills will be closed.
Collections will resume and landfills reopen on Tuesday, December 26 (Boxing Day), while, the landfill drop-off facility at the gate will remain accessible to the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day.
The public is also advised that the department’s offices will operate until 12:30 p.m. on Friday, December 22 and 29, 2023, as stated in Administrative Circular 1 of 2023 from the Deputy Governor to all civil servants. Landfills in Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman will close their gates at 1:00 p.m. on these same dates.
Additionally, the reception of derelict vehicles and bulk loads of scrap metal will be temporarily suspended from December 25 to 27, 2023, and again on January 1, 2024.
