The Burger King CoEd League kicked off more action under the lights on Friday August 28th and Monday night, August 31, at the Ed Bush field. One of the teams most affected by the pandemic delay, Dolphin Discovery, has struggled with player numbers since the season started back. Nonetheless, every weekend they show up and play with everything they have. Monday night was no different, and their opponent was the 1st seeded team in the West Division, Deloitte. During the first few plays of the game, Bernardo Lobo of Dolphin Discovery would score and set the tone for the game. Shortly after that, they would score yet again, following a touchdown from Angel David Chavez Ferreira. Short some players themselves, Deloitte would find ways to stay in the game, scoring two touchdowns courtesy of Jordan Cacho and Chris Bennett. However, despite having no subs and playing both defense and offense, Dolphin Discovery would score their 3rd touchdown by Angel David Chavez Ferreira, and that would help them secure the win. “We know we’re going to be the underdog in most if not all of our games, but we are going to come out and play as hard as we can.”, says Dolphin Discovery’s captain.
Earlier that night, Balls Deep and Cayman Auto would claim the 7pm spotlight in a game that was jammed packed with action from start to finish. Overtime would be needed to try to decide a winner, but it wasn’t enough. Led by QB Robbie Cribb Sr., Cayman Auto would move the ball well despite the pressure Balls Deep kept on. Michael Smikle would do his team proud, as he scored 3 touchdowns for the Cayman Auto gang. Deighton Parker and Sarafina McField would add the icing on top contributing the extra points. Their offensive power didn’t come without an answer from their opponent, as Balls Deep would respond back with Paul Laidlaw, Jahmi Dunbar and Jonathan Allen each doing their part to put their team on the board and keep them in the game. Ending is a draw, clearly shows both of these teams left it all on the field. This Friday Cayman Auto kicks off the night at 7pm against BnP BBQ, and Balls Deep is on a bye and will be able to rest up.
The full score list for the Monday night games are:
• Cayman Auto (20) vs. Balls Deep (20)
• Burger King (0) vs. Kimpton Seafire (6)
• BnP BBQ (0) vs. Maples (6)
• Dolphin Discovery (20) vs. Deloitte (14)
• Popeyes (28) vs. Tribe Tattoo (7)
• Cola (6) vs. Magnum (42)
Last Friday kicked off with BnP BBQ taking on one of the new teams in the league this year, Coca Cola. Despite not having their main QB, Jordan Stubblefield, BnP BBQ was led mostly by QB, Denicia "Deda" Cranston. On the other side of the ball, Coca Cola was led by David Taylor. Coca Cola would pressure BnP BBQ's Cranston and much as they could, but that did not stop her from connecting with RaShaun Wright and Ernesto Ebanks to record touchdowns for her team. Answering back, Taylor of Coca Cola would connect multiple players, Taj Haye, Ashley Wood and Erica Bosch being a few. The game would end with a win in favour of Coca Cola, but with smiles from both sides and going down as a fun game to watch. Many players play with each other on the same teams during other leagues, but then face off during CoEd. It’s those small factors that make the games that much more fun and interesting at times. This Friday, BnP BBQ faces off against Cayman Auto at 7pm and Coca Cola will meet Tribe Tattoo at 9pm.
Coca Cola and Tribe Tattoo are currently sitting 3rd and 4th in the West Division with the same record, so their game Friday will help decide the playoff route each team will take.
The full score list for Friday night games are:
• BnP BBQ (13) vs. Coca Cola (34)
• Dolphin Discovery (7) vs. Popeyes (28)
• Balls Deep (40) vs. Magnum (0)
• Kimpton Seafire (0) vs. Tribe Tattoo (6)
• Cayman Auto (6) vs. Deloitte (14)
• Burger King (0) vs. Maples (6)
Action resumed last Friday in the Burger King CoEd Flag Football League at 7pm. The Executive Board has enjoyed seeing the amount of teams that have been able continue the season. “Resuming the CoEd season has been great and we are seeing the excitement and enthusiasm growing each week!”, says Women Vice President Jen Choice. The league has 2 more regular season nights before the playoffs are here. Currently sitting in first place in each division are Popeyes in the East, and Deloitte in the West. However, game results on any given day could change those ever so slightly. If you’re in the area or want to take in some of the action, see you Friday night at the Ed Bush Field. The night’s matchups are as follows:
• 7PM:
Cayman Auto vs. BBQ
Burger King vs. Dolphin Discovery
• 8PM:
Shottas vs. Maples
Popeyes vs. Magnum
• 9PM:
Burger Shack vs. Deloitte
Cola vs. Tribe Tattoo
