In her address from 10 Downing Street on Friday morning, British Prime Minister called for National Unity.
It is clear that she has realized that the only way out of the current Brexit debacle is a National approach with compromises.
This is the foundation for negotiations and our existence on earth depends on our ability to communicate, compromise and unite.
Here at home we are going through a debacle of our own as we fight with the gay rights issue.
Every individual is an independent thinker and even though many may accept the visions and leadership of a few, the time will come when we will have to take sides.
However, what is at stake is the future prosperity of these islands. Ironically, Prime Minister May referred to the UK as islands during her speech as she said, “This is a difficult time for everyone. Passions are running high on all sides of the argument. But we can and must find the compromises that will deliver what the British people voted for. This is a decisive moment in the story of these islands and requires national unity to deliver in the National interest.”
Well said, Prime Minister, and we hope that these other Islands will be allowed to unite in their own best interest as Gay Rights are debated.
We live in paradise and these small islands of 102 sq. miles are home to over 60,000 individuals who wish to live in peace, safety and harmony.
The face of Cayman as we know it is changing, and we referred to it in a previous editorial as The Price of Progress. However, progress should be measured and gradual.
It is time to keep our progress in check as we unite for the future of these blessed Islands.
