Enhance your Career with the UCCI Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management

Get a renewed passion for your Human Resources career. Enrollment is now open for you to invest in your journey to gain your Master’s in Human Resources Management (MHRM). The MHRM at The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) is a great way to enhance your professional development. It is a 36-credit programme that will last for 18 months and comprises of three modules which begins in October 2019.

The UCCI MHRM was designed in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Society of Human Resource Professionals (CISHRP). UCCI has also partnered with Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) in the USA, to offer examinations on island, an advantage never before seen in Cayman. The first module is also offered in stand-alone sessions to accommodate HR practitioners who might need professional development. This ensures that those individuals who do not wish to do the degree but would like to be certified are able to participate in the programme.

A former student of the programme describes her experience as “wonderful from day one.” Beth Mcfield expresses that “I was exposed to instructors, admin staff and fellow scholars who care. Through this programme, I acquired so many valuable contacts and experiences including gaining a specialisation (SPHR) after being encouraged by the former Director. UCCI offers a faculty of brilliant minds who love to share knowledge and real-world experiences. They are dedicated to the educational advancement of all students. I don't regret the decision to pursue a master’s degree at this institution and remain fortunate for the opportunity through Government scholarship and employer contribution”.

This course delves into the heart and soul of Human Resources giving learners an opportunity to learn the fundamentals, communication skills as well as finance and accounting. Module two allows you to look at strategies in HR Management with real life examples from Cayman and around the world. This module also prepares you to sit the exams for HRCI’s PHR, or SPHR certifications. Module three allows you to perform independent research that would allow you to apply your HR knowledge to real world experiences and issues. This final module, as with all others, is flexible with respect to the students’ professional obligations. Each student works with a UCCI faculty member who has expertise in the area of study.

In addition to the MHRM, UCCI offers a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA). The proof of how you can boost your career is in the pudding and current MBA student Chantell Ebanks agrees “When it comes to personal development, being able to believe and invest in yourself is very essential. I really do believe that when we are able to venture out of our comfort zones is when we can truly begin to grow and reach new heights. The UCCI's Master's programme and its professors have certainly pushed, guided and encouraged me to set and meet my goals. If you are interested in taking yourself to the next level, then UCCI's Master's programme is the right choice!”

Director of Graduate Studies, Dr Stephanie Fullerton-Cooper notes that “students who pursue the Master’s programmes at UCCI are assured of a student-centred approach every step of the way, as UCCI works assiduously to help them attain their academic goals. UCCI is also partnering with local and overseas institutions and organisations to ensure its offerings are cutting edge and meet international standards. The aim is also to ensure that classes are scheduled in such a way that working professionals can attend most classes outside of work hours. At the Graduate Studies department, UCCI, all students matter and are taken into consideration as programmes are planned.”

For admission into the MHRM programme, applicants should have some HR experience and a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants who do not hold a Bachelor’s degree but who have significant experience in an HR role may be given consideration for entry into the programme. All applications will be reviewed by a committee for selection. The cost of the programme is $15,000, inclusive of materials (except two textbooks) and all fees. “Stand-alones” are priced separately with discounts offered when participants sign up for multiple seminars. UCCI offers all interested applicants a payment plan to help them reach their academic goals.
