Collaboration for Enhanced Road Safety
In collaboration with the National Roads Authority (NRA) and the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport & Development (PAHITD), a comprehensive strategy has been adopted to enhance safety along the Spotts Straight corridor.
Project Details
One of the key safety enhancements will be the installation of delineators along the centre of Spotts Straight, stretching from the Chrissie Tomlinson roundabout to Spotts Newlands Road. This project will begin on Saturday and Sunday, January 18th and 19th between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
The new barrier will eliminate overtaking – identified as a significant hazard on this road - and ensure safer travel for all motorists. To accommodate these changes while maintaining residential access, openings will be provided for all residents along the Spotts Straight corridor.
Addressing Speeding Concerns
Excessive speeding has been identified as a leading cause of accidents and fatalities in this area, with widespread noncompliance with the 40-mph speed limit. While reducing the speed limit to 25 mph was initially considered, the National Roads Safety Council (NRSC) determined that this measure alone would not sufficiently address reckless and habitual speeding.
Instead, a multi-faceted approach - combining enforcement, engineering improvements and revised safety standards - has been developed to mitigate risks along this critical corridor.
Minimizing Disruptions
The NRA is committed to managing this project with minimal disruptions to residents and commuters. We thank the public for their exercised patience and caution as these critical safety improvements are implemented.
