It’s been four weeks since the 2021 Burger King CoEd League kicked off and the games are getting more exciting and competitive week after week. Kicking off the night was the matchup between Deloitte and PD’s.
PD’s had a great start at getting the ball moving in the first drive but unfortunately they weren’t able to score. Deloitte quickly secured an early touchdown with Kimberly David catching an open pass near the goal line to run it in. PD's defenders fought hard and successfully stopped the extra point. Another touchdown was later followed by Jen Choice of Deloitte. With QB James Stephen drawing defenders to the right, it was easy work to find Jen Choice in the end zone for the second touchdown of the night. PD’S worked aggressively again to deny Deloitte of the extra point conversion as Chelsea Green intercepted the ball during the attempt. PD’s drive as they successfully move the ball down the field to find a way to score; a swiftly Fabio Gall would receive a run play which enable him to run in for PD’s first touchdown for the night, however the extra point conversion was a miss as Deloitte turned up the pressure to stop the conversion. Deloitte stayed on top of things and secured the win with another touchdown from Kimberly David. Taj Haye scored the last 2 point conversion of the night to finish off the game with a final score of 20-6 to Deloitte.
Cayman Auto was faced with another defeat this week as the team struggled to get the ball moving on offense as they battle head-to-head against Sandbar who also had issues connecting with their receivers in the beginning. The back-and-forth fight finally enabled Sandbar to place points on the board as Tanisha McClean scored their first touchdown. Despite the efforts from Sandbar, the extra point conversion was ruled no good as the player did not quite make it in to goal line to secure the points. Cayman Auto found themselves just after the half as QB Cribb threw a pass to find Jamal Bodden who swift across several of Sandbar defenders from the halfway line as they missed his flags, despite the downfield chase from sandbar, Bodden was just too swift for sandbar defenders, touchdown, Cayman auto now on the score board with the extra point conversion secured by Sarafina McField. Sandbar QB found receiver Angel Chavez in the end zone all alone, another touchdown with the extra point conversion secures the win for Sandbar. Final Score Sandbar (13) vs Cayman Auto (7)
Our next matchups for the night featured two teams who are no stranger to each other, even though both have made some key additions over the last few season that have enhanced both squads it was Popeyes who would seal the game with a key interception by Nicholas Roberts in the last 5 mins of the game with the lead in hand. The game began with a strong and methodical drive resulting a 30yrd catch and run touchdown by Paul Laidlaw for the first score of the game. Popeyes responded immediately with a scoring drive of their own with Brendon and Lisa Malice navigating the offense. It was the Popeyes defense that would keep Burger Shack at out of the end zone for the rest of the game. Young talents on both sides showed out with excellent pressure on the rush from Burger Shacks Asher Francis and Popeyes Abdul Patterson. Final score of the game Popeyes (14) vs Burger Shack (7)
Just over on field two, it was the Magnum chargers to take on Burger King. Magnum QBs Tonia Mclaughlin and Michael Gocul Jr led their team to victory that night. Michael threw a touchdown to Theo Edman and secured the extra two-point conversion. Another pass from QB Michael found Josh Whittaker for their second touchdown and extra point conversion. The game was beginning to look very one sided as Burger King struggled to get the ball moving as Magnum defenders gave Burger King no breathing space intercepting BK pass attempt. Magnum’s ball and it seems that Burger king was finally awake as they answered back with and interception of their own. Trick plays between Burger king QB’s Richard Campbell and Justin Derrick brings their team closer to the end zone and in scoring position. Richard capitalizes on the opportunity and throws a touchdown to Marlene Williams. Richard Campbell fought hard to keep his team in the game as another touchdown was secured by Burger King; despite the team effort, it was the mighty Magnum chargers who dominated this night and took home the win. The Bird (19) vs Tribe (18)
The Bird vs Tribe Tattoo was a close game from the start to the end. Tribe opened the scoreboards first with a pass from QB Carlo Ylagan to Ed Pellot-Rosa who ran it downfield for the touchdown. Just before the end of half, Bird evened the score with a pass from David Taylor to Jonathan Allen with Ashley Wood scoring the only extra point conversion of the game. Second half was faced with a back-and-forth battle as both teams managed to score touchdowns after their drives. With mere minutes left in the game Tribe was up by one touchdown, however with just seconds to the final whistle, the Birds came up with the TD to seal their victory.
The final game of the night saw a rocky start from the Maples team as they try to get the ball moving. Shaking off their jitters Maples found their rhyme after securing their first down with favorite receiver Andre Godfrey for couple drives. Successfully movement of the ball for a few more drives placed Maples at the goal line which set Michael Swaby in perfect motion to make the first touchdown of the night.
With just two drives from Credit Union placed them right at the goal line looking for their first touchdown for the evening. Unfortunately, incomplete passes did not allow them to secure any points. Turnover on downs puts the ball back in Maple’s hand. It is Andre Godfrey again with a long pass from QB Dunkin that sets Maples up at first and goal. 3rd and Goal; QB Dunkin finds rookie player Brittany Ebanks for their 2nd touchdown. Credit Union fights to get points up as Ernesto Ebanks throws a long ball looking for substitute player Michael Smikle, however that was interrupted by Maple’s defense Calvin Dunkin as he intercepts the ball just before the halftime whistle. Score at half-time Maples 12 and Credit Union O.
First drive by Credit union had Jarryd Bodden on a run play shaking many of Maples defenders. A switch in Credit Union QB had Jodie sending a complete pass to Ernesto who shakes couple of Maples Defenders, but was unsuccessful in getting the first down, turn over on downs, maples ball. After two drive Calvin Dunkin finds the unstoppable Andre Godfrey for the 3rd touchdown of the night, however they were still unsuccessful at securing their extra points as Zachary Franklin misses his second extra attempt for the night. A very determine Credit union begins to move the ball, but minor mistakes set them back as they lose downs for failure to throw the ball to a Female player and illegal movements on the offense. It is 4th and long and a glimpse of hope could be seen for Credit Union as Ebanks throws a long pass finding Michael Smikle for the touchdown and Jarryd Bodden with the extra point. After a few back and forth turn overs, Credit union found Jarryd Bodden again for their second touchdown however it was Calvin Dunkin who interrupted Credit unions attempt at securing an extra point by batting the ball down. What started off as Maples looking as the team to be beat tonight was a game changer as they dominated both offense and defense giving Credit Union a real run for their money.
