An energy packed third week of the Burger King COED Flag Football opened with Deloitte taking on Burger King. Burger King had their first possession cut short as Deloitte’s defense quickly took over possession. A quick pass to Deloitte’s speedy Kimberly David opened the score board for the night with Jen Choice completing the conversion. Burger King managed to move the ball on occasions but unfortunately Deloitte’s strong defense would not allow Burger King to advance with interceptions from Deloitte’s new addition Taj Haye scoring twice on turn overs. Despite the odds, Burger King capitalize on their last possession with only 27 seconds left in the game with a long pass from QB Justin Derrick leading to a lateral pass to Jose Suero to put them on the scoreboard for the night! Score ending at Deloitte (42) Burger King (8).
Over on the other field QB Brendon Malice of Popeyes threw an interception that was caught by Credit Unions’ Tareek Gardener. Some key catches by Lisbet Ebanks kept credit union offense alive. After back-to-back possession on both offense in the first half, Popeyes managed to score their first touchdown. Brendon Malice threw a touchdown pass to Abdul leaving LaRue Nixon to complete the extra point ending the first half 7-6 to Popeyes. Second half began with a pass from QB Malice to Abdul Patterson who dances around the defense with a clutch catch from Nicholas Roberts making it entertaining for the spectators. Malice then throws another TD, to LaRue and Ryan Pull to secure the extra point. Credit union on offense had Joni Ebanks as the QB who throws a pass to Tareek Gardener who matches the energy but misses a key first down. Turnover on down had Popeyes back with the ball. Abdul steps in as QB and throws his first touchdown of the game to LaRue with extra point also to LaRue. Touchdowns for Popeyes were also scored by Racquel Brown, who would also secure the extra point. Final score Popeyes’s (21) Credit Union (0)
Match three saw the Bird face off against Maples. Both the Bird’ offense and defense dominated the entire game. Quarterback David Taylor had another outstanding performance as he threw 4 touchdowns. Maples were unable to move the ball much against the stingy defense of the bird. However, the female players for Maples did very well when given opportunities to make plays. Field two for the night featured PDs vs. Cayman Auto. PDs Led by QB Demetri Chisholm came in 2-0, with the Cayman Auto squad looking for their first win of the season. PDs would score first as Chisholm would find Chelsea for a touchdown and Oliver Parker for an extra point. Cayman Auto, led by QB Robbie Cribb, would move the ball well with passes caught by Jahrion Bodden, Tracey Seymour and Jamal Bodden. Frank Gale and Jasmine Myles would step on defense for Cayman Auto challenging PDs offenses drives. PD would go out to score two more offensive touchdown by Josh McFarlane and Chelsea Green, with Fabio Gall adding one from a defensive interception. Final score PD’S (25) Cayman Auto (0)
Next game had Burger Shack vs Sandbar. This game featured some young talent on both sides, but it would be burger shack led by Kaleb Ebanks and Illeann Powery that would take control by playing solid defense and capitalizing on offense with scores by Paul Laidlaw, and Cassandra Bodden. Sandbar did manage to find the scoreboard on a big play proving that they were not to be underestimated. Sandbar will have to lean on the experience of veterans like Ashley Frederick and their Coach, Adrian Russell to grow as a team. Final score Burger Shack (22) Sandbar (6)
Final game of the evening was Tribe taking on Magnum. A good opening drive by Tribe scoring on their first possession with plays from Scimone Campbell and Matt Ellis putting them on the scoreboard early. Magnum determined to even the score gets back possession of the ball but that was quickly intercepted by Paul McField giving Tribe back the opportunity to add more points to the scoreboard. Magnum not backing down are able to score right before the half with touchdown from Joel Townsend and Josh Whittaker converting extra points ending the half at 13 to 8. Magnum then having an excellent start to second half scores with touchdown from Josh Whittaker, but Tribe quickly answered back with a long pass to Justin Conolly for a touchdown and with a lateral pass in the end zone to Scimone Campbell who seals the deal and secure the win for Tribe.
