Flowers Group celebrates 78th anniversary with Business After Hours

You are invited to a very special Business After Hours - in celebration of the 78th Anniversary of the Flowers Group, and the opening of their new CPM + 40 Block Plant. “With the continued support of our customers, we are pleased to announce the opening of the new Flowers Group CPM+40 block machine, “the first in the Caribbean” and we are honored to have the Chamber of Commerce BAH to help us celebrate,” said Flowers Group Managing Director, Frank Flowers.

“Flowers have been in business in the Cayman Islands for 78 years, from my grandfather to my father to the next generation. We look forward to supporting the continued development of the Cayman Islands.  We are appreciative of the Chamber of Commerce and their support,” said Flowers Group Director, Dara Flowers Burke.

The story of the Flowers Group began in 1931, when Clarence Flowers left Jamaica at the age of thirteen and moved to Grand Cayman. After returning from military service in World War II used his savings to purchase a Bedford Pickup Truck – converting it and using it to transport passengers to and from the seaplanes that used to land in the North Sound.

In the 1950s Clarence pioneered the distribution of drinkable water – rainwater collected in cisterns. He started manufacturing concrete blocks1960s: The company, now known as C. L. Flowers & Sons Ltd., upgraded its block operation, setting new standards in the Caribbean.

A new direction began in the 1970s, when Clarence joined local investors to establish Cayman National Bank. In 1974, Richard Flowers established Flowers Bottled Water delivering 5-gallon water bottles to commercial and residential customers.

In the 1980s under Frank Flowers Sr., the company moved to a new site and upgraded to a modern block machine, significantly increasing production capacity.

Building at Cricket Square began in 1994, spearheaded by the Flowers family, particularly King and Lisa Flowers. The development has been a key part of the revitalization of George Town.

The Flowers Group, known for their high standards in construction and landscaping, has continued to expand the park. The Flowers Group’s commitment to excellence has made Cricket Square a central hub for business in the Cayman Islands.

Community Engagement

After injuries from a 34-year running streak which included over a dozen marathons, Frank Sr. learned to swim at the age of 39. He started the Flowers One Mile Sea Swim, an annual charity event promoting healthy living and supporting local charities.

After Hurricane Ivan devastated the island in 2004, the Flowers Group provided clean drinking water and supported rebuilding the island.

2020s: Celebrating 75 years, the Flowers Group renovated its headquarters and continued to innovate with projects like the mobile swimming pool, Swim Free, which provides accessible swimming facilities to children in Cayman’s schools.

The Flowers family has always emphasized their commitment to the Cayman Islands. Clarence Levi Flowers once said, “Our company is only as strong as the community we serve,” reflecting their deep-rooted values of honesty, hard work, and community support.
