Digicel 11 Coldwell Banker 10
The Girls Softball championship game was finally played on Saturday, June 10th, after a one week delay due to rainy weather. Coldwell Banker and Digicel had each one twice in four head-to-head games this season, so the coaches, players, and spectators were anticipating a very close game. Digicel built up an early lead of 7-0 and they were ahead 11-4 after the top of the 3rd, only to see Coldwell Banker mount a furious rally that fell just short as Digicel held on 11-10 to win the trophy!
Coco Windsor was the hitting star for Digicel, with a grand slam homer and a 2 RBI double. She finished with six runs batted in on the night and two runs scored, to earn player of the game honours. Her big sister Rio Windsor also had a good night at the plate, reaching base all three times and scoring three runs. Rio pitched very well during her two innings on the mound. Renee Bryan chipped in with two singles and an RBI, and Eve McIntosh was on base three times with walks.
Eowyn Hawkins pitched the entire game for Coldwell Banker and she gave a very brave effort in striking out five batters to keep her team in the game. Janey Veilleux had two singles, a walk, and she drove home two runs. Jen Diaz had a single, a walk, and scored a run. Leiram Pena was on base twice and scored both times.
A one-run game was a fitting way to end a very competitive season in the Girls Softball division. The girls and coaches wish to thank all the sponsors, umpires, parents, and league staff for their wonderful support.
