CILLA Girls Softball continued on Wednesday, February 3rd as the SOL Pumas had two big innings en route to a 13-7 victory over the SOL Jaguars.
Both teams took advantage of several walks, a few hit batters, and a couple of defensive lapses in the first inning, and the SOL Pumas led 6-4 going into the second. The pitching and defense quickly improved and the SOL Pumas only added one run, while the SOL Jaguars plated two runs.
The decisive inning was the third, with Jeliyah McLean’s 2 RBI single to right field being the big hit in a five run inning for the SOL Pumas. In the bottom of the third, SOL Pumas pitcher Aydis Rostran struck out the side as the SOL Jaguars were unable to score, despite loading the bases. Each team scored one more run in the fourth inning to make the final result 13-7. The SOL Jaguars are to be commended for playing a really competitive game while missing a few key players.
Aleigha General and Kenia Rostran scored two runs each for the SOL Pumas, while Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin was on base three times and had 2 RBIs. Rio Windsor and Hannah Lawrence scored two runs apiece for the SOL Jaguars and pitchers Clara Ramos and Withney Jackson combined for seven strikeouts.
The defensive play of the game was made by Aleigha General, Kenia Rostran and Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin of the SOL Pumas, as they teamed up on a rare 1-2-5 double play!

The second game of the week was played on Saturday, February 6th and the SOL Panthers scored multiple runs in every inning on their way to a convincing 27-7 win over the SOL Pumas.
Keirsten McLaughlin, Demae Lee, McKenna Knapik and Sofia Watler each scored four runs for the winners, with Demae’s fourth inning grand slam being the big hit of the game. In addition to some excellent hitting by several players, the SOL Panthers also took advantage of several walks and a few errors. Eowyn Hawkins continued her consistent hitting this season with two more solid line drive hits. Catcher Jahzara Barnes made a good throw to put out a runner at first after a dropped third strike. Stephanie Menko, playing third base, made a perfect throw to retire a runner at first. Pitcher Sofia Watler had a good game on the mound, especially in the second and third innings, as she held the hitters in check.
Kenia Rostran had a solid RBI hit for the SOL Pumas, and she came all the way around to score the second run on the play when the outfield misplayed the ball. Young outfielder DeShae Cann continues to improve and is already showing a great understanding of the game in her first year of Girls Softball.
Unfortunately the SOL Pumas allowed gave up too many walks and committed several fielding errors as it just wasn’t their night. The good news is that they have already have a victory and they are only half a game out of first place with lots of time left in the season.
Both teams looked superb in their beautiful new uniforms, proudly sponsored by SOL Petroleum.
