On Wednesday evening Scotiabank cruised to a 9-1 lead, and held off a dramatic final inning comeback by Kirk Freeport to hold on for a 9-8 victory.
Scotiabank tallied six runs in the first two innings, with Shay Windsor, Zhanna McDonald and Janey Veilleux each scoring twice. Clara Ramos had RBI hits in both innings. Meanwhile, Zhanna was in command on the mound, keeping the Kirk Freeport bats silent, and helping her own cause with two good catches.
Each team scored a run in the third inning, with Keirsten McLaughlin sprinting home for Kirk Freeport and Hannah Lawrence crossing the plate for Scotiabank to make it 7-1.
In the fourth inning Shay and Zhanna were each hit by pitches and later both scored with some excellent baserunning.
In the top of the fifth, Kirk Freeport began a furious rally! Leila Dixon, Aiyana Barnes, Krystal Morales-Ebanks, Natalia Bent, Demae Lee, Sofia Watler and McKenna Knapik scored seven consecutive runs, utilizing some timely hits and a few errors by Scotiabank fielders. Scotiabank second baseman Dena’e Alexander made an excellent defensive play to force out a runner, or her team might have been in more trouble. With the tying run on third, Zhanna fielded a grounder and calmly threw to first base for the final out in the 9-8 win.
Kirk Freeport pitcher Ariyana Ebanks struck out ten batters, one of the highest totals in the past several seasons. Leadoff batter Demae Lee had two hits and reached base in all three plate appearances.
Players of the Game:
• Zhanna McDonald (Scotiabank): 3 runs scored, 3 strikeouts and 5 putouts at pitcher.
• Shay Windsor (Scotiabank): 3 runs scored, excellent defense at catcher and good fielding at shortstop.

Little League Activities Suspended
Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19, the Little League sent out the following message to all families on Friday:
Dear Little League Families and Friends,
We all want to play ball so badly, but we need to take a break. During this challenging time, it's critically important that we are extra cautious, vigilant and responsible. In doing so, and in cooperation with global and local health authority recommendations, as well as Little League International, we are suspending the current season, effective immediately.
We remain hopeful that containment efforts are effective over the weeks ahead and that play can resume after the scheduled Easter break. Of course, plans will be confirmed as more information is known and the situation progresses.
Our opponent is proving to be a tough one, but the game is not over and we're looking forward to a strong rally in the late innings to finish with a big WIN!
