Girls Softball – Game Report

Tuesday, May 31st

Coldwell Banker 10, Digicel 9

The Girls Softball mini-tournament continued on Tuesday, May 31st, as Pizza Hut rallied from a 9-2 deficit with eight runs over the final two innings to squeak past Digicel, 10-9.

Digicel threatened in the top of the 1st, but Coldwell Banker pitcher Demae Lee induced a line drive double play to end the inning. Demae led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and would later score, as did teammate Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin.

Digicel’s Clara Ramos began the 2nd with a homer to left field. Eowyn Hawkins reached on a dropped third strike and Imogen Howe reached on an error. They would both score, helped on an RBI single by Nelly Hayles. Coldwell Banker failed to score in the bottom of the 2nd as Digicel’s Raegan Jefferson made a stretching catch behind second base.

Digicel answered the call in the top of the 3rd, tallying six runs to take a 9-2 lead. Angelie Bodden, Maya Willis, Raegan, Madison Malice, Clara and Eowyn all scored, with Madison’s grand slam homer to the fence in left centre being the big hit of the night.

Stephanie Menko, Jialy, Mya Williams and Keilah Gordon all scored in the bottom of the 3rd for Coldwell Banker, to make it close. Stephanie got the rally started with a line drive triple deep to the fence in right centre.

Digicel failed to score in the top of the 4th as Jialy struck out two batters and Stephanie made a good running catch in foul territory at 1B.

In the bottom of the 4th Coldwell Banker took advantage of four walks as Stephanie, Jialy, Mya and Keilah all scored for the second straight inning. With runners on 2B and 3B and the score 9-8, Janey Veilleux hit a grounder which got past the fielder at 2B, allowing both runs to come home for the win.

Even though they weren’t quite victorious, Digicel are to be congratulated for a tremendous effort in their two tournament games.

The Wednesday, June 1st game was rained out so Pizza Hut and Coldwell Banker will face of for the tournament championship on June 8th. The two teams have been neck and neck all season, so either could emerge as champs.
