Girls Softball – Game Report

Coldwell Banker 10, Pizza Hut 6

The Girls Softball mini-tournament concluded last Wednesday (June 8th), as Coldwell Banker backed up their regular season title with a 10-6 victory over Pizza Hut.

Demae Lee, Stephanie Menko and Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin scored in the top of the 1st to give Coldwell Banker an early 3-0 lead. Stephanie’s line drive to right centre deflected off the fielder’s glove, scoring Demae on the play and Stephanie would end up at third. Jialy singled her home and she scored minutes later on an RBI grounder by Lorlie Bryan.

Shay Windsor scored for Pizza Hut in the bottom of the inning, reaching on a fielder’s choice, and using her speed to round the bases.

Keilah Gordon, Demae and McKenna Knapik all walked in the 2nd inning and Stephanie’s towering triple to right field brought them all home. Once again Jialy singled to bring Stephanie home for the fourth run of the inning.

Pizza Hut rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning. Sisters Withney and Hanna Jackson both walked and scored, executing a perfect double steal in the process. LeiAnnie Dixon singled in Hanna with two outs, and LeiAnni later scored on throwing error.

After neither team scored in the 3rd, Coldwell Banker got three more runs in the top of the 4th. McKenna and Stephanie walked and scored, with yet another RBI single from Jialy. Stephanie and Jialy scored on a two out two run single by Janey right up the middle.

In their final at-bat sisters Rio and Coco Windsor each singled and scored, but Jialy finished off her strong pitching performance by striking out two batters, ending any hopes of a Pizza Hut comeback.

Jialy, Stephanie and Janey were certainly the players of the game for their outstanding offensive and defensive contributions.

Girl s All-Stars 15, Coaches/Parents 12

The Girls Softball All-Stars played an inspired game on their way to defeating a very capable team of Coaches/Parents, 15-12 on Saturday night.

Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin had three hits and four RBIs to lead a relentless attack by the All-Stars, who built up an early 10-0 lead after two innings.

The Coaches/Parents didn’t score in the top of the 1st as the All-Stars played great defense and Demae Lee was sharp on the mound. In the bottom of the 1st, Clara Ramos and Shay Windsor scored on Jialy’s double, and Jialy and Madison Malice would later score the third and fourth runs of the inning.

Sofia Watler pitched a fine second inning for the All-Stars, once again holding the Coaches/Parents scoreless. In the bottom of the 2nd the All-Stars tallied six more runs. Sofia reached on an error, Raegan Jefferson walked, Maya Willis was hit by a pitch, and all would score. Demae reached on a fielder’s choice, Clara walked, Shay singled, and Jialy brought the final three runs home with a powerful hit to the fence in left centre.

The Coaches/Parents finally flipped on the switch to start the 3rd, getting on the board with six runs. Lisa Malice, Jerad Ebanks, and Tania Knapik all singled and scored. Jason Windsor reached on an error, and Marlene Williams and Vaughn Smith pounded back-to-back doubles. Jason, Marlene and Vaughn scored the final three runs of the inning. Although the All-Stars loaded the bases in the bottom of the 3rd, Jerad meant business for the Coaches/Parents as his powerful pitching finally shut down the scoring.

Momentum seemed to be on the side of the adults, but Jialy came in to pitch for the All-Stars and she held the Coaches/Parents scoreless to start the 4th. In the bottom of the inning Withney Jackson led off with a line drive triple to the left field corner and she scored on an RBI single by Demae. Clara walked, Jialy singled, and Coco Windsor had an RBI single as the All-Stars got five runs in the inning. The Parents/Coaches fought back with six runs to make it close. Alikie Kandler walked, Rod Jefferson tripled, Tania singled, and Jason walked. All four would score, with Marlene’s RBI double and Vaughn’s RBI single being key hits. The adults might have caught up completely, but fantastic catches by Clara and Withney preserved the hard-earned win for the All-Stars!
