Girls Softball – Game Report

Coldwell Banker 14, Digicel 13

The 2023 season of CILLA Girls Softball resumed on March 9th as Coldwell Banker battled back from an early 6-2 deficit to squeak past first place Digicel, 14-13. Eowyn Hawkins was the hitting star with two doubles and 5 runs batted in, while Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin pitched a complete game for the win and added a double and a triple with the bat.

In the top of the 1st Coldwell Banker scored twice as Jialy and Raegan Jefferson came home on a double by Eowyn. In the bottom of the inning Digicel exploded for six runs. Rio Windsor, Coco Windsor, Renee Bryan, Sienna Bryan, LeiAnni Dixon and Leila Dixon all scored, using a combination of walks, timely hits, and superb base-running to their advantage.

Coldwell Banker returned the favour, scoring six runs of their own in the top of the 2nd. Jen Diaz, Emily Ebanks, Janey Veilleux, Maya Willis, Jialy and Raegan all scored, with Jialy’s triple to centre and Eowyn’s 2 RBI double being the key hits in the attack. Digicel bounced right back with three runs to reclaim the lead. Rio and Coco both singled and scored, and Tracey Campbell reached on an error. She scored moments later as Renee hit an RBI single.

Coldwell Banker failed to score in the 3rd as Coco retired the side in order. Digicel added one run in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-8, as Eve McIntosh singled and sprinted home on a passed ball.

Coldwell Banker rallied for six runs in the decisive 4th inning. Six of the first seven batters scored as Emily, Ramiyah Ebanks, Janey, Maya, Raegan and Eowyn all came home using a combination of four walks, a fielder’s choice, and an RBI infield single by Daniela Del Risco. Digicel came up for their final at-bat down by four and they made it very close in the end. Hailey Ebanks walked and Coco singled with one out. Tracey brought them both home with a 2 RBI double and she scored soon after on a passed ball. Jialy then calmly got the next two batters out, including a fine catch in foul territory by Eowyn to end the game, earning Coldwell Banker their first victory of the season.

Logic 8, Kirk Freeport 8

The Saturday evening game featured a seesaw contest between Logic and Kirk Freeport as both teams held late leads only to see the opponent battle back in a game that ended 8-8.

Kirk Freeport got three runs in the top of the 1st as Madison Malice walked, Demae Lee singled, and Kenia Rostran drove them both home with a 2 RBI single. Kenia scored the third run after two fielding misplays. Logic stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Hristina Nachev, Avah Connors, Hanna Jackson, Lili Aleria and Withney Jackson all scored, with RBI singles by Avah and Withney and a 2 RBI single by Keirsten McLaughlin leading the attack.

Kirk Freeport failed to score in the 2nd as Withney quickly retired the side. Logic picked up one run in the inning as McKennah Knapik scored when Ariel Ritch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Kirk Freeport rallied with two runs in the 3rd to make it 6-5 as Demae hit a one out double and Daniella Heard reached on an error. Demae scored on the play, and Daniella crossed the plate on a triple to the fence by Kenia Rostran. Logic didn’t score in the inning as Demae got a strikeout and two good plays in the field from her team.

Kirk Freeport took the lead with three runs in the 4th. Destini Rankin walked and scored, Nicole Kielczewski singled and she scored on an RBI single by Madison. Demae singled Madison home to make it 8-6. In the bottom of the inning Logic loaded the bases on two errors and a walk. Withney drove a single to right, bringing home Avah and Hanna Jackson to tie the game. Logic had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and a golden opportunity to win. Up for the challenge, Demae struck out the next hitter and induced the next two batters to hit weak groundouts to first base, stranding the runner at 3B and somehow preserving the 8-8 tie.

Each team turned two double plays in the field, which thwarted further scoring opportunities.

Games continue on Thursdays and Saturdays at 6:45 pm on Field 1 at the Field of Dreams.
