The 2023 season of CILLA Girls Softball continued on Wednesday, April 26th, as first place Coldwell Banker built an early lead, eventually holding off Logic, 14-7.

Jialy Archbold McLaughlin scored three runs and hit a double to the fence for the winners, who scored six runs in the 1st and 3rd innings. Teammates Ewowyn Hawkins, Keilah Gordon and Leiram Pena scored two runs apiece. Daniela Del Risco had 2 RBI and Jen Diaz had her first big RBI hit of the season. Maya Willis had an excellent defensive game at first base, and the Coldwell Banker girls teamed up to tag out two runners at home plate. Eowyn and Jialy eached pitched two innings, keeping the Logic batters in check for most of the game.

Avah Connors had an RBI triple to left field for Logic, while Lili Anne Aleria smashed a triple to the fence in centre. Lili Anne scored twice and Withney Jackson also tallied two runs. Logic played a spirited game, but a couple of costly errors and a few too many walks to the Coldwell Banker batters hurt their chances.

Thursday, April 27th

Coldwell Banker 11, Kirk Freeport 8

On Thursday night, Coldwell Banker earned a hard-fought comeback win over Kirk Freeport, 11-8.

Daniela Del Risco , Jialy Archbold McLaughlin and Eowyn Hawkins each scored twice for the victors, who tallied five runs in the 1st and six runs in the 3rd. Eowyn had 3 RBI with a single and a triple, while teammate Raegan Jefferson had 2 RBI. Keilah Gordon and Janey Veilleux contributed RBI singles, and Jialy hit two doubles.

Renell Parchment and Demae Lee each scored two runs for Kirk Freeport, and Demae hit an RBI triple. Nelly Hayles had two singles, and Aviela Ramirez had a single and an RBI groundout. Leadoff hitter Madison Malice had two RBI and Jazmyn Ramsey had a nice single to right field well over the head of the first baseman.

It was a game that could have gone either way, but red-hot Coldwell Banker held on for their seventh consecutive victory following an 0-3 start to the season.

Saturday, April 29th

Digicel 16, Logic 15

On Saturday evening, second place Digicel squeaked past Logic, 16-15, in a high scoring contest which saw both teams score in every inning.

In the bottom of the 4th, with the game tied at 15-15, Tracey Campbell hit a sharp one-out single to left centre. She stole second, and when the throw escaped into the outfield, Tracey sprinted all the way home with the winning run for Digicel. It was her third run of the night, leading her team in scoring.

Leianni Dixon had a triple, 2 RBI and two runs scored for Digicel. Rio Windsor, Coco Windsor, Eve McIntosh, and Jordyn Bergman scored two runs each for the victors, who are now just one game out of first. Digicel also had a few key defensive plays, throwing two runners out at home and another out at third, all of which helped their winning cause.

For Logic, McKenna Knapik scored four runs and had 2 RBI, while Avah Connors had 4 RBI and three runs scored. Withney Jackson smacked a huge double to the fence, knocking in two runs. She had 4 RBI on the night, and she caught a line drive at 3B, turning it into an unassisted double play. Hannah Jackson scored three runs for Logic, and teammates Keirsten McLaughlin and Deidre Edwards tallied two each.

The public are reminded that Little League’s fundraising raffle is back, with a grand prize this year of a whopping CI$100,000! There are also ten $1000 prizes, and the drawing will take place on June 10th. Tickets may be purchased online at www.littleleague.ky or by visiting the Field of Dreams on Fairbanks Road.
