The 2023 season of CILLA Girls Softball resumed on Saturday, April 22nd as third place Kirk Freeport played their best game of the season, defeating Digicel, 13-5. Kirk Freeport’s first four batters, Madison Malice, Renell Parchment, Demae Lee and Kenia Rostran were all hitting the ball hard over the first two innings, as their team scored ten runs early. Madison had a single, a double, 3 RBI, and she scored twice. Renell, just back from injury, had a single, a double, an RBI, and she scored two runs. Demae had a double, a single, 3 RBI, and she also scored twice. Kenia was on base all three times with two doubles, a single, and 2 RBI. Athena Edwards chipped in with two runs for the victors. Demae also pitched an excellent game, striking out eight batters and making a few good plays in the field. She did not allow a single run in three of her five innings pitched.
Tracey Campbell also had some good moments at pitcher for Digicel, striking out six. Unfortunately, a few key errors by her team hurt her cause. Tracey hit a two-run homer down the right field line in the 3rd to give her team some life as they scored four runs in the inning. Renee Bryan scored twice for Digicel and Eve McIntosh was on base all three times with an RBI single and two walks, but otherwise it was a sluggish night offensively for the team. Madison, Renell, Demae and Kenia were awarded game balls for their hitting prowess.
The Thursday contest saw Coldwell Banker win, 7-0, by forfeit, as Logic were unable to field a full team by game time.
The four teams are still very closely bunched in the standings, so it should be a very exciting final month of the season. The public are reminded that Little League’s fundraising raffle is back, with a grand prize this year of a whopping CI$100,000! There are also ten $1000 prizes, and the drawing will take place on June 10th. Tickets may be purchased online at www.littleleague.ky or by visiting the Field of Dreams on Fairbanks Road.
