Due to the success of the programme introduced by government in October 2020 to allow people employed outside of Cayman to live and work here for a maximum of 24 months, government approved at its most recent Cabinet meeting legislation to extend it for another year.
The Immigration (Transition) (Global Citizen Exemption) Regulations, the legislation which governs who can receive the Global Citizen certificate, were supposed to end on 30 November 2023. That meant the last date for applying for a Global Citizen Certificate was due to expire on 31 October 2021. However, the revised legislation means the expiry date for the GCCP is now 30 November 2024 and the last date for applications under the programme is now 31 October 2022, giving plenty more time for interested people to apply and join the hundreds already here.
In order to apply, people need to show proof of employment and/or income, and show that they meet minimum income levels, which increase depending upon the number of dependents they wish to bring with them. They must also provide other documentation when applying, such as proof of legal existence of employer/company, a bank reference, proof of identity, police clearance, and proof of health insurance.
The Global Citizen Concierge Programme (GCCP) is available for applicants to help them navigate the application process and, as a main point of contact, the GCCP will coordinate with Travel Cayman to process the travel authorisation. The GCCP team will also work with the relevant authority to ensure timely verification of all documentation required for travel to the Cayman Islands.
The GCCP team also assists with booking with Cayman Airways, via Miami or receive details for confirmed private jet service. Private jet passage may be secured by the applicant independently, but only following the necessary approvals. They can also assist with accommodation.
The Global Citizen Concierge Certificate fee for up to party of two people is US$1,469 per annum and for each dependent, US$500 per dependent, per annum. There is also a credit card processing fee of 7% of the total application fee.
