Goals galore as new primary school football season opens

Youth officials were kept busy keeping scores this past Saturday as it was ‘goals galore’ during the opening games in the CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL).

With a number of new schools competing in the leagues this year and new faces in the starting line-ups, coaches find themselves already ‘chopping and changing’ in search of that ideal team selection and performance with the basis of giving all players time on the field.

In the CUC PFL Under 9 Group B division, defending 2023 league champions Cayman Prep 9A were not scheduled to play. In the only other Group B game newcomers Footsteps School defeated Triple C 4-0 (forfeit). In Group A, Sir John A. Cumber Primary overcame Joanna Clarke Primary 2-1, St. Ignatius Catholic defeated Island Primary 4-0 (respect rule) and Cayman International School got past Cayman Prep 9B 4-0 (respect rule).

In the Under 11 division in Group A, Joanna Clarke Primary shared the points with Sir John A. Cumber Primary 2-2, St. Ignatius Catholic defeated Island Primary 4-0 (respect rule), Cayman Prep 11C outlasted George Town Primary 4-0 (respect rule) and Cayman Prep 11B came back from a 2-0 deficit to get past Cayman International School 3-2.

There were no Under 11 games scheduled in Group B due to postponements.

In the GPFL Under 11 division, defending champions Cayman Prep defeated Cayman International School 4-0 (respect rule), St. Ignatius Catholic got past Island Primary 4-0 (respect rule) and Sir John A. Cumber Primary defeated Joanna Clarke Primary 4-0 (respect rule).

Supporters of the beautiful game are encouraged to go out to the various sports facilities and school fields and show their support for these Under 9 and Under 11 athletes as they compete for school pride.

Games scheduled for this Saturday, September 30 will be played at the Annex Field, Camana Bay SC, West Bay Town Hall Field, Prospect Primary and Red Bay Primary.
