November is lung cancer awareness month and Health City Cayman Islands is offering its ‘Scan Earlier. Breathe Easier’ targeted lung health check programme.
The campaign targets people who are:
• 50 years and older
• Have a history of smoking
• Current smokers and those who have quit within the last 15 years
People who meet the criteria will be provided a low-dose CT scan at Health City’s hospital at East End and a follow-up consultation with Health City’s lung health specialist, Dr Archita Joshi-Bhatt the following week at Health City’s Camana Bay clinic. The cost for the scan and the consultation is only $50.
Screening is used to detect lung cancer at an earlier stage when there is more chance of a better outcome. A low-dose CT scan is a special kind of X-ray that takes multiple pictures as you lie on a table that slides in and out of the machine. A computer then combines these images into a detailed picture of your lungs. The scan takes only a few minutes and is not painful.
