International Management Services Ltd. (IMS), one of Cayman’s leading providers of independent fund directors and related financial and corporate services, has added James Macfee and Ruan Van Vuuren to its team of highly-experienced, independent fund directors.
With over 40 years of business in Cayman’s financial services industry, IMS has long been a pioneer in the world of offshore financial services and is now one of the leading providers of fund governance and fiduciary services in the Cayman Islands, providing independent directors to hedge funds and many of the largest international wealth management groups.
“At IMS we focus on quality, expertise, and independence, and we are very pleased to welcome James Macfee and Ruan Van Vuuren, both of whom bring first-class qualifications and industry experience that complement our funds team perfectly,” said Paul Harris, Chairman of IMS.
Prior to joining IMS, Caymanian James Macfee worked with Estera Trust (Cayman) where he acted as an independent director to hedge funds, structured finance products, and CLOs. Macfee qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in the UK before joining KPMG in the Cayman Islands where he specialized in restructuring and liquidations under Cayman, BVI, and Hong Kong Law. He joined IMS to act as director to a portfolio of hedge and private equity fund clients.
Prior to joining IMS, Ruan Van Vuuren was a Chief Analyst in the Investments Supervision Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) where his role included approval of fund registrations, supervision of liquidations and de-registrations, consulting on new regulatory requirements, providing guidance on industry queries to fund directors and trustees, leading risk analysis of funds and licensees, managing a team within the inspection division and managing projects to fulfill new fund requirements including the AML Officer regime. Prior to that, Van Vuuren was a Senior Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where he worked on the audits of a large and varied portfolio of hedge funds, PE funds, real estate, and structured finance vehicles.
Gary Butler, Managing Director of IMS said: “Ruan’s exceptional background with CIMA brings with him a level of regulatory knowledge and insight into the inner workings of the regulator in the Cayman Islands, which will be invaluable to our fund clients; and the addition of James Macfee to our fund fiduciary team comes at a time when his skillset will undoubtedly be highly desirable to fund managers, both existing and emerging.”
