After 9 years, the new owners of Jet Around Cayman have engaged Peripheral Life and Style & The Cayman Islands Water Sports Association to bring back the legendary jet ski race around the island.
Peripheral and CIWA are working together to promote and make this year’s race a safe and exciting community event, held over the Easter long weekend on holiday Monday.
The Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, Hon. Bernie Bush said: “I am happy to see Jet Around Cayman return and I wish it to be a very successful event. I look forward to working with the teams handling the event in the future to meet some of the targets that will be set by the Ministry”
2022 will have the largest prize in the history of Personal Watercraft racing in the Cayman Islands as $25,000 in cash prizes will be up to claim this year.
Traditionally this race was held in June, but this year will kick off the new tradition as an Easter Weekend festival. Jet Around Cayman has teamed up with BlackBeards and Big Daddys to promote the races offering free event tickets and other prizes for purchasing Coron & Redbull products leading up the event.
Schedule of events:
Sunset Thursday will kick off the long weekend with the official riders meeting at SandBar on the Georgetown waterfront. Sandbar will host live Reggae artist and band, Stuart Wilson the night will continue with a Soca, Reggae theme party next to SandBar on their oceanfront 15,000 sq foot venue.
Saturday night will introduce a Dance Party with a unique mix of House music and Soca. Sandbar will extend its patio onto the Balboa waterfront to ensure lots of room to dance the night away.
Monday is Race Day with the start / finish line at Public Beach. The Jet Around Cayman team is encouraging spectators to watch from their campsites as they will be able to track the riders with GPS and see live video feed from the checkpoints.
Back at the finish line there will be music from noon till sunset at the podium where you can celebrate with the winners as they pop their bottles of bubbles from Cayman Distributors. Corona, Bacardi & Red Bull along with beverages for the whole family will be available at the beach as well as food venders to fill your bellies. Join us this year at Seven Mile Public Beach or anywhere along the coast you might be camping to cheer on our island champions as they race to see who is the fastest around the island!
