Week 6 in the 2023 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) concluded this past Saturday with a few firsts for a number of schools.
In the GPFL, the young ladies from Joanna Clarke Primary were ecstatic following their 4-2 victory over Island Primary, which marked their first win of the season. Joanna Clarke’s Tabitha Roberts opened the scoring in the 7th minute and Elizabeth Myles-Douglas completed the scoring in the 15th, 16th and 17th minutes. Facing the daunting task of getting back into the game, Island Primary never gave up and following a sustained spell of pressure, Island Primary’s Brielle Riddick pulled two goals back for her school in the 30th and 36th minutes. With time running out, Island Primary were unable to add to their tally and the comeback stalled as Joanna Clarke secured the three points.
Other results in the GPFL included Cayman Prep downing Sir John A. Cumber Primary 2-0 and Red Bay Primary and George Town Primary grinding out a 0-0 draw. The game between Cayman International School and St. Ignatius Catholic was postponed.
In Group A of the CUC PFL, the Island Primary Under 11 boys team also accomplished a first by beating Joanna Clarke Primary 2-1. Island Primary came flying out of the gates resulting in Jonas Gilbert opening the scoring in the 7th minute with a well taken effort. Liam Jackson added a second in the 13th minute with a wonderful free kick, which found the corner of the net after a slight touch from a Joanna Clarke defender.
Joanna Clarke’s Kayden Parsons pulled a goal back for his team in the 34th minute but it wasn’t enough as Island Primary held on for the victory.
In the Under 9 encounter, Joanna Clarke Primary defeated Island Primary 2-0 thanks to a 31st minute Island Primary own goal and a Zaydon Roberts strike in the final minute of play.
In other scores in Group A in the Under 9 division, Sir John A. Cumber Primary defeated George Town Primary 5-2 and St. Ignatius Catholic held on for a 1-0 win over Cayman Prep 9B. In the Under 11 division, Sir John A. Cumber beat George Town Primary 5-2, St. Ignatius Catholic downed Cayman Prep 11B 4-0 (respect rule) and Cayman International School got past Cayman Prep 11C 3-0
In Under 9 play in Group B, Prospect Primary defeated Red Bay Primary 3-1 and Footsteps School got past Small Schools 4-0 (respect rule). In the Under 11 division, Prospect Primary beat Red Bay Primary 4-0 (respect rule) and NorthEast Schools downed Small Schools 4-0 (respect rule).
The final week of regular season games are scheduled for this Saturday, November 18 with games at the Annex Field, Red Bay Primary, Prospect Primary, Camana Bay SC, West Bay Town Hall Field and St. Ignatius Catholic.
Playoffs are scheduled for Saturday, November 25 (quarter finals), December 2 (semi-finals) and December 9 (finals and third place games) at the Annex Field.
