Holiday Campaign Giving Back to 12 On-Island Charities

Michael Binckes, Sales Associate with RE/MAX Cayman Islands, is launching his 12 Days of Christmas campaign giving back to 12 on-island charities to celebrate the holiday season.

RE/MAX Cayman Islands is known for giving back to the community, but Michael Binckes wanted to do something special as he celebrates 13 years with RE/MAX Cayman Islands.

Starting on December 11th and continuing through December 22nd, Michael Binckes will be making a donation each day to a different charity on island, but it’s not just about giving money to these charities in need but bringing some Christmas cheer to the people these charities help each and every day.

“A few months ago, I sat down with my family as we were planning our Christmas and we decided to do something special this year,” added Michael Binckes. “We wanted to focus on giving back to charities that can often get overlooked during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, and that is where the 12 Days of Christmas idea came from. We chose 12 different charities that are close to our hearts and will be making donations to all 12 of them this Christmas.”

“We wanted to do more than just give money to local charities so I, along with my wife and son, will be picking out dog treats to give to every dog at the Cayman Islands Humane Society. We will be making Christmas cookies and delivering them to Meals on Wheels and Flowers for Jasmine. My son is also personally donating some of his books, along with other books we will be purchasing for Life: Literacy is for Everyone,” added Michael Binckes.

“We wanted to focus on children and animals this year,” added Michael. “These are charities that are close to our hearts. We rescued our dog Holly Valentine from One Dog at a Time, and she has become a member of our family. In fact, my wife and I have decided not to give each other presents this year. We each chose a charity, and we will be donating to those instead. In the past, like most parents, we’ve given lots of gifts to our 12-year-old son, but this year we’ve told him that there won’t be as many presents under the tree. We are helping others who need assistance especially at this time of the year and what’s great is that he is having fun being a part of this new tradition.”

“The charities we have chosen for this year’s 12 Days of Christmas, which will be an annual event, are:

1. The Breast Cancer Foundation

2. NCVO (The National Children’s Voluntary Organisation) toy delivery

3. One Dog at Time

4. Cayman Islands Humane Society

5. Cayman Ark’s CASA program that renovates homes in deplorable condition

6. The Pines Retirement Home

7. Jubilate, a social outreach after-school programme with emphasis on music

8. Numerous children specifically at NCVO through Union restaurant

9. Jasmine

10. Meals on Wheels

11. Life: Literacy is for everyone

12. Inclusion Cayman

“For more than 10 years now I’ve been involved with several charities on island including the Breast Cancer Foundation and Inclusion Cayman where I was a member of the steering committee for many years. I wanted to do something that brings a smile to people’s faces that these charities benefit, and I also wanted to share with my son the importance of helping others,” Michael Binckes added.

“The Cayman Islands have been my home for 13 years now and my family and I have been truly welcomed. The 12 Days of Christmas is just something that we can do to give back.”
