Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to improving public transport, Minister Jay Ebanks convened a pivotal stakeholder consultation with over one hundred taxi operators across Grand Cayman on Monday, November 4,2024. This vital interaction aimed to provide a platform for operators to voice their concerns and collaboratively explore ways for the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development to better support the taxi industry.
The meeting marked a significant contribution to the Minister’s ongoing mission to enhance public transport, with a dedicated focus on bolstering the taxi service. During the session, Minister Jay actively listened to the diverse challenges and suggestions brought forward by the taxi operators. In response to their feedback, Minister Jay remarked, “I value your dedication and invaluable insights. Your perspectives are essential, as we strive to enhance our transportation network. I am committed to working with you to find solutions that benefit all of us.”
The taxi operators thanked Minister Jay Ebanks for his proactive approach and willingness to engage. Mr. Burns Rankin, a Taxi Operator based in Grand Cayman, commented on the value of the meeting, stating, “Monday’s meeting was highly productive. It provided an opportunity for taxi operators across Grand Cayman to express their concerns. The Minister understands the challenges we face as taxi drivers and is committed to working towards solutions to improve our situation. I am looking forward to our next meeting.”
