Ministry of PAHITD Celebrates Successful Collaboration Between Local Farmers and Chefs at the 16 Annual Cayman Cookout
The Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport & Development (PAHITD) proudly announces the success of the 16th Annual Cayman Cookout, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the ties between the local agriculture, hospitality, and tourism sectors. This year’s event highlighted an impressive collaboration, with Caymanian farmers supplying the freshest local ingredients to renowned chefs from around the globe, showcasing the best of the Cayman Islands’ produce.
Sponsored by the Ministry as part of its commitment to the Cayman Islands Nutrition and Food Security Policy, the Cayman Cookout served as a vital platform for promoting the integration of agriculture with hospitality and tourism. Guests indulged in dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients, celebrating the rich agricultural heritage of the Cayman Islands. This unique event provided local farmers with an exceptional opportunity to promote their farms and connect with leading culinary talents both locally and internationally.
Mr. Eric Bush, JP, Chief Officer of the Ministry of PAHITD, stated, “Our intent is to connect the 100’s of millions of dollars spent locally each year on food and produce to our local farming sector. Partnering with the Cayman Cookout for the second year is starting to show promise and pay dividends. Our local and celebrity chefs alike remarked at the quality of meat, produce and eggs, which were provided to them for this world class annual event. Our intent is for this to continue year around and hope that everyone, both commercial and private will turn their focus towards buying and supporting locally grown and made products.”
The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing local agriculture. “Our local farmers continue to demonstrate their vital role in enriching our vibrant culinary landscape,” stated the Hon. Johany Jay Ebanks, MP and Minister of PAHITD. “By deepening the ties between agriculture, hospitality, and tourism, we are driving economic growth, promoting a healthier nation, and championing sustainable farming practices. It’s a collective success for all.”said Honorable Johany Jay Ebanks, MP and Minister of PAHITD.
The success of the Cayman Cookout highlights the value of these partnerships and reaffirms the Cayman Islands’ commitment to advancing food security. The Ministry of PAHITD is eager to build on this progress and remains dedicated to supporting local farmers in their efforts.
