Cayman Islands sports took an important step forward at the beginning of this month, when the National Sports Commission held its first official meeting on Monday 3 April 2023 at Government Administration Building. The Commission is made up of 11 appointed members from both the public and private sectors, each of whom represent different athletic disciplines. Members met with stakeholders from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and Heritage before engaging in dialogue on the Commission’s areas of focus.

The Commission is chaired by Neil Murray and co-chaired by Ronnie Roach, while other voting members include Osbert Francis, Shakeina Bush, Heather Harvey, Jade Parker, Michael Holding, and Verley Campbell. Non-voting members include Robert Lewis, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports. The members were appointed by Cabinet and will serve until December 2024.

Sports Minister Bernie Bush said: “Establishing the National Sports Commission will strengthen, regulate and develop the Cayman Islands’ sporting sector and update the expired National Sports Policy and Strategic Plan.”

The procurement process for consultation and development for the National Youth Policy and the National Sports Policy ended on 6 April. The public can expect to learn more about these initiatives, as well as their respective Commissions in the coming weeks, officials said.
