New Inter-Primary Cricket champions to be crowned this week

St. Ignatius Catholic (batting) advance to this week’s semi-final unbeaten

This past Friday marked the seventh and final round of regular season action in the exciting 2024 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition. With the semi-finals set for Wednesday, May 29 and the finals on Friday, May 31, new champions will be crowned in the boy’s and girl’s divisions.

In the boy’s semi-finals, undefeated Zone A winners East End Primary School will face Zone B runners-up Cayman International School and undefeated Zone B winners St. Ignatius Catholic go up against Zone A runners-up Prospect Primary for a place in the final.

In the girl’s semi-finals, undefeated Zone A winners East End Primary School play defending champions and Zone B runners-up Cayman Prep A and undefeated Zone B winners St. Ignatius Catholic face the Zone A runners-up, which is still to be determined. The two schools vying for the runners-up spot in Zone A are Prospect Primary and Edna Moyle Primary. The semi-final spot may be determined by runs scored or conceded depending on Edna Moyle Primary’s result from their game in hand against Red Bay Primary.

The semi-finals will be played at the Annex Field at noon (girls) and 1:00 p.m. (boys). The finals and third-place games are scheduled for the Smith Road Oval - Girl’s third-place at 9:00 a.m., Boy’s third-place at 10:00 a.m., Girl’s final at 11:30 a.m. and the Boy’s final at 12:30 p.m.

Results from the final day of regular season competition on Friday, May 24 included:

Zone A Boys: Prospect Primary downed Cayman Academy 59 runs to 58 runs, Cayman Prep B got past Edna Moyle Primary 54 runs to 53 runs and East End Primary defeated Island Primary 118 runs to 76 runs. Red Bay Primary was not scheduled to play.

Zone B Boys: St. Ignatius Catholic beat Sir John A. Cumber Primary 106 runs to 80 runs and Joanna Clarke Primary got past Cayman Prep A 130 runs to 86 runs. Marie Martin Primary was not scheduled to play.

Zone A Girls: Cayman Academy were not able to play so the points were awarded to Prospect Primary, Edna Moyle Primary defeated Cayman Prep B 67 runs to 56 runs and East End Primary topped Island Primary 68 runs to 62 runs. Red Bay Primary was not scheduled to play.

Zone B Girls: St. Ignatius Catholic got the better of Sir John A. Cumber Primary 51 runs to 47 runs and Joanna Clarke Primary downed Cayman Prep A 87 runs to 81 runs. Marie Martin Primary was not scheduled to play.

The Inter-Primary Cricket Competition is organised and coordinated by the Department of Education Services, the Department of Sports and the Cayman Cricket Association and sponsored by CUC.

Parents and supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer on our young cricketers during the semi-finals, third-place and final games.
