No evidence of contamination from both gasoline and diesel tests

Independent lab test results conclude OfReg fuel quality investigation at Barcam Esso gas station.

Following notification through a local media company on 4 June 2022, where an anonymous member of the public alleged a fuel quality issue at the BarCam Esso gas station, OfReg initiated an immediate investigation which included a number of onsite tests and fuel quality analysis tests.

The results of these tests found no evidence of contamination and both gasoline and diesel test results were well within globally acceptable Octane Rating levels. Additional samples from the gas station and from the bulk storage tank at Jackson Point were collected for further independent testing overseas at an accredited lab.

OfReg has since received the results of these independent tests which confirm that the samples show all fuel quality parameters were on target or within the acceptable ranges where applicable. The detailed results can be viewed on the OfReg website at https://www.ofreg.ky/viewPDF/documents/2022-09-21-09-55-39-Certificate-of-Analysis-Barcam-Cayman-12-August-2022.pdf

OfReg takes the matter of fuel quality seriously and continues to conduct periodic tests at fuel facilities to ensure the quality of fuels products imported and distributed in the Cayman Islands is of the required standard.

As the regulator for the fuels sector, OfReg encourages members of the public to report any concerns they have on the quality of fuel they have purchased. They should first submit a complaint to the gas station before a formal complaint is made to OfReg by email at complaints@OfReg.ky or by calling the 345-946-4282. Further information on the complaints process can be viewed at https://www.ofreg.ky/how-to-make-a-complaint .  All complaints are treated in the strictest confidence.
