Non-Profit: Wind Of Hope

Attention all charities! Have you submitted your NPO application yet? To make sure you’re in compliance with the law, submit your paperwork before Tuesday, 31 July — and as a thank you, Government will waive the $300 application fee!

Wind Of Hope (WOH) promotes healthy living in order to improve the way of life for all residents in the Cayman Islands.

Paul Williams came up with the idea for WOH in March 2014. His dream to be charitable to others was initially shared by Christine Smith, Kevin Connolly and Melisa Smith.

By March 2017, Williams had expanded the administrative and operational capacity of WOH, and he saw a significant increase in membership.

A major building block was laid in February 2018 when WOH was officially registered with the Cayman Islands Government as a non-profit organisation.

Its structure, as an unincorporated group of persons, gives it the ability to carry out its charitable objectives to a new level.

As part of the process, five directors were appointed: Winston Sobers, Gregory Ellis, Yolanda Clarke, Karina Alvarado, and Claudette Wright Russell.

Part of the WOH mission is to contribute to other non-profit organisations, groups of individuals, or individuals with causes that positively impact lives in Cayman.

Working under the motto of “envisioning a world where there is still hope for everyone”, the non-profit has raised more than CI$18,500 since inception, through its annual 5k Walk/Run.

Beneficiaries have included the Pines Retirement Home, with a donation of $9,000; and the Cayman Islands Red Cross, with a donation of $4,500 in 2017.

The 2018 5k Walk/Run took place on Sunday, 27 May, at Smith Cove. This year, the event raised $5,000 to benefit the work of the Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home’s “Supplying Healthy Meals” programme.

The Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home is the only home in Cayman that offers residential facilities exclusively for children in need of care and protection.

The annual cost of the “Supplying Healthy Meals” programme is estimated to be CI$25,000 annually, and substantial donations are necessary in order to continue helping the youth of the Cayman Islands.
