The Utility Regulation and Competition Office (‘OfReg’) recently acquired a portable fuel analyser for testing gasoline, diesel, ethanol-blended gasoline, and jet fuel, allowing OfReg to conduct in-house testing and analysis of fuel samples and limiting the need to export samples to laboratories abroad.

As part of OfReg’s commitment to delivering accurate and efficient fuel sampling, it has invested in the Grabner Instruments Miniscan IR Vision Pro fuel analyser which will enhance OfReg’s capabilities in fuel compliance and quality assurance. The OfReg Fuels team were trained on using the analyser by the equipment supplier.

The transition to in-house testing and analysis will streamline the process, reduce turnaround times, and provide timely and accurate results.

This acquisition aligns with the anticipated establishment of local Fuel Standards, which will significantly benefit local consumers, assuring reliable, safe, and quality fuel within the local supply chain.

OfReg is confident that this strategic investment will contribute to the overall safety, transparency, and efficiency of fuel products. By conducting preliminary tests locally, OfReg can provide swift responses to industry demands and foster local expertise.

“Our acquisition of the latest fuel analyser underscores our commitment to delivering the highest standards in fuel quality assurance. With this cutting-edge technology, we’re not just inspecting fuel, we’re advancing the science of accuracy and efficiency in the ever-evolving fuel industry.” Ken Springer, OfReg Deputy Chief Fuels Inspector said.
