Postal Ballot Applications & Deadline Reminder

The Elections Office wishes to remind the public about the upcoming deadline for mobile and postal voting applications as well as share important information about postal ballot applications and submissions.

In recent weeks, the Elections Office has experienced an increase in requests for postal ballots submitted just days before the elector is set to travel, with an expectation of immediate access to voting upon arrival at the Elections Office. While the Elections Office recognises that unforeseen circumstances can arise, it is important to understand that the preparation and processing of postal ballots requires adequate time. To ensure a smooth process and that all votes count, electors are strongly encouraged to plan ahead.

The deadline to apply for a mobile or postal ballot is Thursday, 17th April. This deadline factors in the upcoming Easter holidays as well as courier transportation timelines for the overseas delivery and return of postal ballots so electors are urged to submit their applications as early as possible.

The final postal ballots will be issued on Saturday, 19th of April, the next business day following the application deadline, allowing sufficient time for processing.

For electors residing or travelling abroad, we strongly encourage the use of DHL for overseas delivery of postal ballots where feasible. This service is designed to ensure timely receipt of ballots, but it is crucial that electors make arrangements well in advance. Last-minute requests create additional challenges and may not guarantee that ballots arrive in time for voting.

All postal ballots must be received by the Elections Office no later than close of business on Tuesday, 29th April. As General Election and Referendum Day is a public holiday, please be advised that courier deliveries will not occur on that day. Electors who are unable to return their postal ballots by post may hand-deliver them to the Returning Officer in their electoral district up until 6:00 PM on 30th April.

The Elections Office appreciates the cooperation of all electors in adhering to these deadlines and allowing adequate time for ballot preparation and processing. By planning ahead, electors help ensure the integrity and efficiency of the election process.
