Following the welcomed mid-term school break, youth football returned this past Saturday, November 2 to the fields across Grand Cayman as play resumed in the 2024 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL).
In Group A in the CUC PFL, undefeated Cayman International School (CIS) continued their dominance so far in the group as they defeated a ‘plucky’ St. Ignatius Catholic outfit. In the Under 9 contest, goals from Nixon Hart (7th minute), Jack Henderson (18th minute) and Solomon Sargison (36th minute) was enough to see off the St. Ignatius youngsters 3-0.
In the Under 11 division, CIS ran out 4-1 winners over St. Ignatius Catholic thanks to goals from Davi Bertoldi (13th minute), Kiyan Deardan (39th minute), Hugo Chaloner (46th minute) and Hayden Burton (50th minute). St. Ignatius’ Eli Conolly made it interesting in the 38th minute as he levelled the score at 1-1 but his side could not hold on to the lead and succumbed to some clinical finishing from their opponents.
In other Group A Under 9 games, Island Primary 9A and Marie Martin Primary shared the points after a 0-0 draw and Cayman Prep 9B downed Joanna Clarke Primary 2-0. In the Under 11 division, Island Primary and Marie Martin Primary drew 3-3, Cayman Prep 11B edged Joanna Clarke Primary 4-2 and Sir John A. Cumber Primary defeated Theoline L. McCoy Primary 4-0 (respect rule).
In the Under 11 division in Group B, undefeated Prospect Primary and Cayman Prep 11A faced off in a ‘top of the table’ clash with Cayman Prep 11A inflicting a 5-2 defeat on their group rivals. In other Under 11 games, Footsteps School downed Small Schools 4-0 (respect rule).
For the first time, Cayman Brac hosted a sanctioned CUC PFL game in the Brac as they welcomed Red Bay’s older boys to their shores. Although the trip was enjoyed by the Red Bay boys, the score was not to their liking as they lost to the Brac 4-0 (respect rule).
In the Under 9 games, Island Primary 9B edged Red Bay Primary 2-1 and Cayman Prep 9A beat Prospect Primary 1-0.
In Group A in the CUC GPFL, St. Ignatius Catholic defeated CIS GA 3-0 and in Group B, Red Bay Primary downed Island Primary 2-0 and NorthEast Schools defeated CIS GB 4-0 (respect rule).
