The Ministry of Tourism and Ports (MOTP) would like to warn the public about a series of fake news reports currently circulating on social media, concerning Deputy Premier, Hon. Kenneth Bryan, which falsely purport to be legitimate news articles from the Cayman Compass. Some of the fake articles contain links to a supposed investment scheme, which is a phishing scam.
The public is further advised that the reports are completely false and neither the Deputy Premier, the Ministry of Tourism, nor the Cayman Compass have any knowledge of where the articles originated.
Anyone who receives the fake articles in their social media newsfeeds should not click on any of the links. Instead, please be vigilant in order to avoid falling victim, particularly to “get rich quick” investment schemes, promising a substantial financial return.
How to Report Suspicious Activity
If you encounter suspicious online activity, report it to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) Financial Crime Investigation Unit at RCIPS.FCU@rcips.ky , particularly if you have been a victim of this, or any other such scam.
Reports from the public are essential in helping to protect the community from fraudulent activities, and the public’s cooperation is appreciated in spreading awareness to safeguard the community.
