Some members of the Grand Cayman community recently received five LED light bulbs (per home) as a part of the Caribbean Electric Utility Service Corporation’s (CARILEC) resiliency and energy efficiency project (CAREEP). Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) is a member of CARILEC and assisted with the execution of this energy efficiency project. The programme is funded by the Resilience, Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity Programme (RESEMBID) and the European Union. It aims to build energy resilience in the Caribbean and reduce climate vulnerability. The Cayman Islands was selected as one of the six island countries for the launch of the programme.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Sustainability and Climate Resiliency and CUC, older residents across Grand Cayman, who are clients of the local Meals on Wheels programme, received their LED light bulbs this week. The Meals on Wheels organisation assisted with selecting households that would benefit from the programme and with the delivery of the LED bulbs.

Jason Abraham, CUC’s Project Development Manager, commented, “CUC is committed to our community and to building knowledge of energy efficiency throughout Grand Cayman. We were happy that we were able to partner with CARILEC and Meals on Wheels on this project.”

Jennifer West, General Manager of Meals on Wheels, stated, “Meals on Wheels is thrilled to have been selected as a partner for these community minded organisations that are devoted to giving back. Meals on Wheels provides daily hot meals, warm smiles and peace of mind to over 350 seniors each weekday. We know that the 100 households that receive the LED blubs through this project will benefit from energy savings, which will make them smile a little brighter!”
