It is grown in the cold mountainous regions of Europe and Asia. The roots are considered to be adaptogens which means when consumed it helps the body to adapt to stress. It is also known as arctic root, or golden root, and the scientific name for it is, “Rhodiola Rosea.” The root contains over 140 active ingredients, the two most potent being rosavin and salidroside. For centuries people in Russia and Scandinavia have used it to treat stress, anxiety and depression.
DECREASES STRESS - The modern world pace is hectic. This herb increases your body’s resistance to stress. It has also shown to improve events of burn- out which occurs as a result of chronic stress.
FIGHTS FATIGUE - Stress, anxiety and inadequate sleep are just a few factors contributing to fatigue which results in mental and physical tiredness. The adaptogens are believed to help alleviate this fatigue. In one study 100 participants received 400mg of the herb daily for 8 weeks. In a study with 56 physicians working the night duty and given 170 mg of the herb, their work performance was greatly enhanced. After taking the herb for 20 days, students in this study experienced significantly reduced mental fatigue and improved sleep patterns.
