Precious Gems Preschool got a surprise last month when the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise delivered a library chair/couch filled with books for the little readers. It is the third time that Rotary Sunrise has built and delivered a library chair to a Cayman preschool.
With funds from their popular Buy A Kid A Book program that Rotary Sunrise held this year in September, the club was able to donate the couch filled with books along with a $575 gift certificate to The Book Nook for future book purchases.
Complete Services KY built the couch and Rotary Sunrise purchased the books and special padding to create a comfy corner for little readers. The couch contains spaces for several books on both sides and two storage spaces at the base. This year the larger couch concept allows for more children to be involved. Having a pal at your side when you snuggle in to read makes reading a fun event, and achieving a culture of reading in our youth is exactly what Rotary Sunrise hopes to achieve.
Rotary Sunrise President Karelle DaCosta has this to say about Rotary’s library chair donation: “Learning to read from such a young age helps children in their development and their love of life in general. Providing these books and a space just for them to grow and explore with a variety of books is what this is all about.
“Thank you to the public for your generous donations throughout the year and to all our members, and to LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone) for their assistance in selecting a preschool.”
The donation reflects Rotary Sunrise’s continued commitment to supporting literacy in our islands. One of the main focuses of the Sunrise Rotary club is to ensure that children of all ages are given access and opportunity to read.
