Pure Joy 2020 “Wish Fuel Thinking” Contest Doles Out Big Prizes & Surprises to Customers & Local Charities

Rubis Service Stations recently completed the Rubis Pure Joy 2020 “Wish Fuel Thinking” contest, awarding over $55,000 KYD in cash prizes at participating stations throughout the Cayman Islands.

In a bid to spread Christmas cheer and ease burdens for their customers and local charities, the contest was run for 9 weeks leading up to the Christmas holidays. From October 19, 2020 – December 21, 2020, weekly cash prize drawings were held for customers at participating Rubis stations and brought with them the chance to win $2500 for 5 exceptional charities along with 5 levels of cash prizes for winning customers.

However, when the charities came to pick up their cheques from the contest, they were met with a big surprise. Rubis officials informed the charities that they would be doubling the donation amount that each of the charities was receiving.

Rubis Managing Director Andres Barthel commented on the move, saying “It was always our intention to use our ‘Wish Fuel Thinking’ campaign to play a role in spreading joy and easing burdens within our community. We are so grateful to have been able to grant some holiday wishes with the cash prizes we awarded our customers and were overjoyed to surprise our charities with double the donations they were expecting. Overall, this campaign was just as its name implies — pure joy — and we look forward to more fun and uplifting events in 2021.”

The charities eligible for the Rubis Pure Joy donations included:

• Feed Our Future

• Humane Society

• Cayman Islands Cancer Society

• Big Brothers, Big Sisters

• Alex Panton Foundation

“The CI Cancer Society is so grateful to Rubis for supporting us and the people we exist to serve. A diagnosis of cancer is never easy for anyone but for those who have very little financial resources, it can be even more difficult. Through the years we have been here to help our cancer patients when they struggled because their income and basic insurance plans were insufficient. Since the pandemic, the situation changed and we now have patients who have cancer but no income and no insurance,” said Jennifer Weber, Operations Manager at the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. “We want to thank Rubis for helping us help others through this especially difficult time. When they surprised us by doubling their donation, it was a true gift!”

Stacey Van Develde, Chairwoman of Feed Our Future added “In 2020 we have seen so many more families fall on hard times and the ongoing generosity of the Cayman community is so vital to fulfilling our mission and servicing children in need.”

The Rubis Pure Joy 2020 “Wish Fuel Thinking” campaign centered around a mission to find a unique way to build courage, create hope and inspire change in the lives of Rubis customers and select charities.

In addition to weekly prizes of $500-$100 KYD, the grand prize drawing was held in the 9th week of the contest and awarded 6 winners $5000 KYD in cash each. Winston Lightbody won the draw for West End Rubis in Cayman Brac on Friday, December 18th while Gary Clarke, Allan Brinas, Terry Joe Fredricks, Sean Antoney Reid and Quintin Mendez made their way to Red Bay Rubis on Monday, December 21st to be surprised, just in time for Christmas.
