The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is announcing a special clean up exercise over the next two weeks to remove bulk waste in Grand Cayman.
Residents are reminder that the annual Bulk Waste Collection will take place on May, ahead of the Hurricane Season. However, the special clean up announced is an exercise to facilitate the transition to this new schedule.
The bulk waste special collection will take place according to the following schedule:
• West Bay December 4 & 11
• George Town December 5 & 12
• Red Bay & Prospect December 6 & 13
• Savannah & Bodden Town December 7 & 14
• North Side & East End December 8 & 15
Any bulk waste that is put out after the announced dates will not be collected.
Residents are urged to prepare and separate their items ahead of the days assigned for collection in their respective areas. Household appliances, furniture, and other items too large to be handled by the weekly DEH collection crews should be placed by the roadside where it is easily accessible to DEH collection crews. Metals and vegetation should also be separated from other bulk items.
Persons are required to make alternative arrangements to transport to the nearest landfill any construction and demolition debris, hazardous material, electronics, and tyres as these items will not be collected during the bulk waste removal activity.
The George Town Landfill operates from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, until 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays and is closed on Sundays. The landfill drop-off facility at the gate will remain accessible to the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day.
