The new amendments to the Traffic Act took effect on Wednesday 19 October. The recent passing of the Traffic (Amendment) Bill, 2022 has reduced the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) for drivers from 100 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (0.1%), to 70 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (0.07%).
The public is reminded that it is recommended that persons consuming alcohol refrain from operating a vehicle while under the influence, regardless of the amount consumed. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has actively begun to enforce the new restrictions.
