TechCayman Inspires Future Innovators at Robotics Camp in Cayman Brac

TechCayman recently held their annual immersive robotics camp for students at Layman Scott High School in Cayman Brac. Machine Learning Robotics, fully sponsored by TechCayman, is designed to spark an interest in technology and innovation among young learners.

During the camp, students immersed themselves in a variety of hands-on activities, from building and assembling robots to writing and optimizing their own programs. The primary focus was to introduce students to the principles of programming and robotics, enabling them to understand and create automated systems.

TechCayman has an ongoing commitment to supporting education and technology in the Cayman Islands, and as part of this commitment, donated additional robotics parts to the Layman Scott Robotics Club. This donation adds to their significant contribution to the club in 2022, ensuring that the students have ample resources to continue exploring and developing their robotics skills.

The students’ enthusiasm for the camp was evident. When asked what they enjoyed about building robots, one student beamed, “I love technology, building, and assembling the robots.” Another student shared, “I enjoyed the freedom to change things to make the program more efficient.”

The social aspect of the camp was also highly appreciated. One student commented, “My favorite part of the robotics camp is that we have different friends who help us work together. We can learn together while having fun.”

One of the camp mentors emphasized the broader benefits of such initiatives: “Machine Learning Robotics enables kids to work as a team, giving them a chance to interact and work outside of their comfort zones.” This sentiment was reflected in the students’ collaborative efforts throughout the camp, as they tackled various challenges and supported each other’s learning.

Philip Liu, TechCayman’s Education Program Coordinator, added, “We are thrilled to see the students so engaged and passionate about technology. Our goal is to provide them with the tools and opportunities to explore their interests and develop skills that will benefit them in the future.”

The camp activities were diverse and engaging, offering students a comprehensive introduction to robotics and programming. Starting with bins of small parts, they built robots from scratch, programmed them to perform specific tasks, and even tackled complex challenges such as navigating mazes. These activities not only enhanced their technical skills but also fostered critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.

TechCayman’s dedication to empowering the next generation of tech enthusiasts is evident in their continuous support for local educational initiatives. The success of the Machine Learning Robotics camp at Layman Scott High School exemplifies the positive impact such programs can have on young minds.

TechCayman and Machine Learning Robotics have been instrumental in fostering strong ties with Layman Scott High School and the wider community in Cayman Brac. By holding this camp annually and by providing ongoing support for the Layman Scott Robotics Club throughout the school year, TechCayman and Machine Learning Robotics have not only provided valuable learning experiences but also built lasting relationships that strengthen the community’s educational foundation. Their ongoing support has been vital in nurturing a culture of innovation and collaboration, inspiring students to pursue careers in technology and robotics.
