The University College of the Cayman Islands is celebrating a second semester of record enrolments, seeing an unprecedented demand for classes starting summer 2023 with over 970 students registered for class currently.
Summer 2022 also saw a huge increase in enrolments, typically a quiet time of year, with 969 unique students registered. Yet this summer saw this record smashed once again.
UCCI also celebrated a first this spring, as with 1346 students taking class it was the first time ever that enrolments were higher in spring than fall.
“These amazing enrolment figures demonstrate that our recruitment efforts are working and that UCCI is more and more being viewed as a first-choice education in the Cayman Islands”, commented Dr. Robert W Robertson, President, and Chief Executive Officer at UCCI.
“Our strongest area of growth over the past year has been our technical and vocational programme as more and more people are looking to increase their employability by gaining accredited, world-recognized, work-ready skills.
“We have a strong vocational offer that will be expanding even further with the introduction in 2023 of a vocational pathway for young people in year 12. We are also looking to expand our vocational offer in Cayman Brac which will again grow our enrolments and we are bringing on many partnerships with Universities overseas including New England Institute of Technology and the University of Calgary. We are truly making education in the Cayman Islands world class.”
Paul Puckerin, Dean of Professional, Technical Vocation and Training at UCCI, commented, “Over the past 12 months we have talked to our community members, local employers and business organisations and are streamlining our offer to ensure that we have programmes thar suit both the community and businesses. We offer daytime and evening vocational classes and with many of our subjects such as our IT Academy and digital qualifications we are starting to offer fully online or hybrid classes.
“We have also brought on board many more ‘learn at your own pace’ online business qualifications such as the CompTIA qualification which can be taken by absolutely anyone that wishes to have a world-recognized IT qualification on their resume. These all make a huge difference in a competitive workforce market and we have worked exceedingly hard to offer these in modes that can fit around work and family life. Factors like this have seen our enrolments number skyrocket.”
UCCI has also strengthened its post-graduate programme and now offers Master’s degree classes in Human Resource Management, Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration and Commonwealth Executive Master of Public Administration.
Applications and registrations for classes starting in fall 2023 open this Friday, 16 June 2023.
Prospective students are urged to complete their applications quickly to be able to register for classes as some fill quickly. A complete list of courses can be found on the UCCI website and students can register at https://www.ucci.edu.ky/how-to-apply .
