The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) is proud to announce that Sahi Bennett, a student from the Division of Business and Finance, has been selected as a recipient of the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarship. This prestigious scholarship, awarded by the Government of Canada, provides outstanding students from Latin America and the Caribbean with the opportunity to engage in academic exchanges and gain international experience.
ELAP is designed to promote student exchanges and strengthen institutional partnerships between Canadian and Caribbean post-secondary institutions. Through this program, students can engage in academic study or research at Canadian institutions, significantly contributing to their professional and personal development.
At UCCI, the ELAP program has played a pivotal role in broadening the global perspectives of its students. UCCI’s President, Dr. Robert W. Robertson, has actively worked to expand partnerships with Canadian institutions, such as Nova Scotia Community College, which have led to more UCCI students participating in ELAP opportunities and benefitting from fully funded study terms abroad.
ELAP scholarships provide up to CAD $8,200 for a four-month study or research term, covering living expenses, travel, health insurance, and academic costs. These scholarships enable students like Sahi Bennett to immerse themselves in a new cultural and educational environment, enriching both their academic career and future prospects.
As part of the ELAP program, Ms. Bennett will be studying at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) School of Business in Canada, one of UCCI’s valued academic partners. Her studies abroad will enhance both her personal growth and professional development, as she explores new academic perspectives and international business practices.
Dr. Robert W. Robertson, President and CEO of the University College of the Cayman Islands, commented. “We are very appreciative of the Government of Canada and the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) for this incredible opportunity.
“The ELAP program affords our students an exceptional chance to participate in a study abroad experience that will be of immense personal and professional value. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Sahi on her receipt of this prestigious scholarship.”
Ms. Bennett has already arrived safely in Canada and completed her orientation at NSCC’s Ivany Campus. She has begun classes and has expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, pledging to be an outstanding ambassador for the University College of the Cayman Islands, the Division of Business and Finance, and the Cayman Islands.
Dr. Belinda Blessitt Vincent, Dean of Business and Finance at UCCI, concluded, “The Division of Business and Finance is thrilled to have our business and finance student, Sahi Bennett selected as an ELAP scholar. This is a testament to Sahi’s hard work, dedication, and passion for learning. Her achievement is truly inspiring, and I have no doubt that she will continue to excel in her studies while at NSCC. She will also be an ambassador for the university and the Cayman Islands and we look forward to her sharing our rich culture and history as she participates in the many activities on the Ivany campus, NSCC.”
