Weather Advisory - Tropical Development Projections

The Cayman Islands National Weather Service continues to closely monitor an area over the southwest Caribbean from which a broad area of low pressure is likely to form this weekend or early next week. There is some uncertainty regarding the location of development as well as the timing however, environmental conditions are favourable for gradual development thereafter with the potential of a tropical depression forming.
Rainfall estimates for the coming days are as follows:
· In Grand Cayman, expect approximately 0.1 to 0.4 inches on Saturday
· 0.2 to 0.4 inches on Sunday;
· and between 0.4 to 0.9 inches on Monday.
The Sister Islands will see slightly more precipitation, with approximately 0.3 to 0.4 inches on Saturday, 0.2 to 0.5 inches on Sunday, and between 0.4 to 0.7 inches on Monday.
Isolated showers are expected over the Cayman area through the weekend with an increase expected thereafter.
Winds between 15 – 20 knots with higher gusts is expected along with waves 5 – 7 feet.
Mariners should be aware that a small craft advisory is in effect for the weekend.
The eventual track of this system will determine just how much rainfall is accumulated for the rest of next week as well as winds and seas condition.
